The Sri Balaji Temple Project which is the first of its kind in New Zealand held its first prayers
and conducted the Sudharsana Homan on 23rd January, 2010 at the Phoenix Hall in Hamilton.
The prayers were well attended and a record number of devotees who surpassed all expectations and numbering some 550 devotees attended and witnessed the Homan. The Hall was at more than full capacity and Maha Prasad was served after the prayers.
Secretary Bala Bhaskar Tikkisetty welcomed all present. The Maha Sudharsana Homan, is performed for Lord Vishnu’s Chakram, the Lord’s most powerful weapon against all evil. In performing the Homan the powers of the Lord and Sudharsana Chakra are invoked through vedic mantras. The performance of the Homan confers health, wealth and prosperity and removes all negativities. The Yantra, a metal piece with Vedic and holy symbols is blessed in the Homan and are normally placed at the home alter or at the entrance of houses to wade off evil.
The Homan was conducted by Auckland’s celebrated Chief Priest of Auckland Sri Ganesh Temple, Chandru. Five Brahmans also accompanied the Chief Priest in chanting vedic mantras and in conducting the human.
Devotees were overwhelmed by the Homan and the chanting of the vedic verses. It is reported that devotees came as far away as Christchurch, Auckland and Hamilton.
Dr. Satish the Chairperson of the Trust gave a brief talk and thanked all the devotees in coming forth for the Homan and thanked all volunteers and Trustees in organising this prayer. He welcomed and urged all devotees to come forth with cash donations to realise the building of the Sri Balaji Temple in Hamilton. He also made mention of Tripathi Devasthanam’s pledge to help in the building costs and a figure of $350,000.00 has been pledged.. This was promised in his recent visit to India.
