In a shocking incident that unfolded in a West Auckland park, 25-year-old security patrolman Ramandeep Singh was found dead on December 18, 2023. The police have launched a full-scale homicide investigation, leading to the arrest of a 26-year-old man, who now faces murder charges and appeared in court on Monday.
Armourguard's general manager Shane O’Halloran expressed profound sorrow as he confirmed that the victim, Ramandeep Singh, was a valued staff member employed through a contractor. The announcement came today as details surrounding the incident continued to emerge.
Singh's lifeless body was found in Massey, Auckland, on Monday morning, prompting condolences from Armourguard to the grieving family and friends.
News reports back in Ramandeep’s hometown in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district claimed he moved to New Zealand in 2018, after completing his schooling in India. His friends reportedly got the news of his killing on Monday.
Singh's identity was officially listed as the victim in court documents filed in the Waitakere District Court. He was reported unresponsive just after midnight on Monday and pronounced dead after being discovered in the car park at Royal Reserve in Massey.
When confirmed with the police about the victim’s identity, a spokesperson said, “A formal identification process is yet to be completed. Police will look to release the name when appropriate.
Police, working diligently on the case, are not ruling out the possibility of further arrests or charges. Detective Inspector Aaron Proctor provided an update, stating that scene guards remain in place on Beauchamp Dr and the area is still closed to the public. “Our investigation teams have worked hard to reach this point. While an arrest has been made, there are still a number of enquiries yet to be completed.” Said Proctor.
An autopsy is scheduled for this morning, and an increased police presence will be maintained in the area. Alongside the park, a property on Reverie Pl has been cordoned off by the Police, with neighbours observed leaving hastily this morning, carrying packed bags.
Authorities are actively seeking witnesses who were present in Royal Reserve park or the broader area, including in and around Reverie Place, on Sunday night between 11.30 pm and just after midnight. The public is urged to provide any information that may aid the ongoing investigation.
