Rediscover Puketapapa's open spaces this summer

Lace up your walking shoes and be ready to explore the reopened wonders of Puketapapa's northern Manukau coastline.

Remember that ferocious storm that hit back in February 2023? It wreaked havoc on 15 of the city’s beloved walkways and reserves. Some of them are now back in action, open to the public, and ready for some serious foot traffic.

A big shoutout to the Auckland Council staff and specialist consultants who've been working their magic over the past nine months.

The areas include–

1. Aldersgate Reserve: The top turf grass area is wide open for picnics and frisbee action.

2. Kingswood Reserve: Partially open now. You can snag access to the fishing area on the rocks – just watch out for slippery moments!

3. Lynfield Cove Reserve Walkway: All tracks are a green light! Enjoy the beauty of Lynfield Cove/Wairaki Stream Reserves and Himalaya Reserve.

4. Sylvania Cres Esplanade to Wattle Bay: One track entry from Sylvania Crescent down to Wattle Bay beachfront is calling your name.

5. Taylors Bay Rd Reserve: Ready for your leisurely strolls.

6. Wattle Bay from Cape Horn Road: Open down to the beachfront – sand and sea, here you come!

But wait, there's more! Still in the works and closed for now are Grannys Bay Reserve's track to the lookout, and the track between the Wattle Bay beaches.

Sadly, there are a few reserves that are keeping their doors shut for the time being:

- Bamfield Reserve, including the Waikowhai Boardwalk to Taumanu Reserve.

- Captains Bush Reserve.

- Frederick Street Esplanade Reserve.

- Halsley Esplanade Reserve.

- Hillsborough Reserve.

- Lower section of Manukau Domain – the walkway loop is closed, but the turf grass area at the top section is open.

- Waikowhai Reserve.
