Revealed: NZ’s priciest house sale of 2023

A Remuera mansion has seized the crown as the priciest sale, exchanging hands for a jaw-dropping $23.8 million, according to the property wizards at Corelogic.

The year itself, as Corelogic aptly puts it, was a tale of two halves. The first act featured a real estate rollercoaster with declining sales and houses doing the limbo under the pressure of soaring interest rates. However, fear not, as the plot thickened and the market found its footing in the latter half.

The star of the show, a property at 120 Victoria Avenue, stole the spotlight in July with its $23.8 million price tag. Kelvin Davidson, the chief property economist at Corelogic, spilled the beans on the upper echelons of the Auckland market, revealing a 15-17 per cent dip in recent years.

Featherston took the title of the weakest housing market, bowing with a 16.6 per cent decline, while Sunshine Bay, Queenstown, emerged as the hero with a 6.6 per cent growth spurt. Herne Bay maintained its reign as the country's most expensive suburb, flaunting a median value of $3.16 million, while Cobden claimed the role of the budget-friendly protagonist at a median $258,200.
