“On repeat”: Catherine Zeta-Jones on her kids’ love for Om Shanti Om
Hollywood power couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones made a glamorous entrance at the 54th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. When questioned about her favorite Indian films, Catherine enthusiastically mentioned her admiration for Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om and expressed her enduring love for The Lunchbox. In a video snippet from news agency ANI on the red carpet, Catherine gushed, "I love the country and the people so much. I'm a big fan of Indian Cinema. My children have grown up watching Om Shanti Om on repeat! There are so many fantastic movies; one that stands out for me is The Lunchbox. It's been a favorite of mine for a long time. It touched me, brilliantly acted and directed, a fundamentally Indian story that resonated worldwide, connecting with men and women everywhere. I even watched it twice on a plane! I asked my agent if I could meet the director in person, and I did—that was really special."
During the press conference, shared on the social media account of PIB, Catherine revealed a personal connection to India, stating, "The story I've never told before is that India touched me in a very serious personal way. An Indian doctor saved my life with a tracheotomy when I was 18 months old. When I come to India, I have this feeling of coming home, a tingly feeling... maybe it has something to do with that. The reason I'm here is because of the brilliance of an Indian doctor in the UK." Sitting beside Catherine, Michael Douglas also expressed his deep affection for India, a country he has visited multiple times. Grateful for being honored with the Satyajit Ray Excellence in Film Lifetime Award, he thanked the festival directors for the prestigious recognition.
At the film festival in Goa, the veteran actor, joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones and their son Dylan Douglas, showcased elegance for the paparazzi. Michael sported a sophisticated dark blue jacket and black trousers, while Catherine looked stunning in a light blue one-shoulder gown paired with stylish stilettos.
Delving into Catherine's illustrious career, spanning four decades, she stands as one of Hollywood's most esteemed actors, having earned an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and a Tony Award. Notable works in her repertoire include Ocean's Twelve, Chicago, Traffic, The Mask of Zorro, and No Reservations. Her recent appearance in the Netflix series Wednesday, portraying Morticia Addams, further solidifies her status as a versatile and accomplished performer.
