Renowned Indian Singer Purva Mantri Electrifies Christchurch Garba Event

Bishopdale YMCA Recreation Centre transformed into a vibrant and energetic arena as a large number of Indian community members got together for a special Garba Night organised by Aroha Event to create awareness about the Christchurch Hindu Temple and to raise funds for the land and construction.

The event on Saturday, 23 September, featured a live performance by renowned singer Purva Mantri, who especially flew down to Christchurch to entertain the audience. Mantri’s energetic renditions of popular Garba and Bollywood songs had the crowd dancing and singing along. Mantri’s voice and her crew’s thumping drum beats created an unforgettable experience for those present. Dressed in colourful and traditional Indian attire, participants swayed to the rhythmic beats, creating a mesmerising spectacle.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement from the moment the music began to play. The event was successful in bringing together people from various backgrounds, transcending boundaries and celebrating the essence of unity in diversity.

Not just Gujaratis but people from Punjab, and other regions of India, came together to celebrate the rich culture and heritage of India. The event was also a true representation of Christchurch’s growing diversity and multiculturalism.

Sharing her excitement, Mantri said, “As an Artist, I’m extremely happy to be part of the event and associating with it for the biggest Ganesh Ji temple in the south of New Zealand. I’m short of words to praise about the beauty of New Zealand and People there. Not even for a moment I felt away from home. From the moment, I landed here, everyone was so welcoming. The energy and vibes from the audience were amazing!”

"I'm just a call away for New Zealand and specially Christchurch. I consider Christchurch as my second home. Certainly, I do look forward to come and perform again very soon," Mantri said, expressing her love for the city and her eagerness to return.

Rahul Dorugade, an attendee, expressed his appreciation for the event, saying, “After such a long time, I had an absolutely fantastic time at the Garba Event. It was very well organised by Aroha Events. The atmosphere had positive vibes, and I congratulate Aroha Events for their hard work in bringing such joy to the people of Christchurch.”

The successful event was conceived and executed by the Aroha Events team, led by Reshma Shetty, Hemant Chauhan, Nilay Dhameliya, Dhrumil Desai, Piyush Lathiya, and Deep Desai.

Sharing her gratitude, Shetty said, “The participation from the community has been overwhelming. Considering the event was for a good cause, we all were delighted to see the turnout and turned it into a night of joy and celebration. I am also thankful to all the volunteers and sponsors who helped us make the event a success!”
