Iconic Punjabi singer-songwriter Gurdas Maan’s concert in Auckland was a night of unparalleled music, nostalgia, and celebration, reminding everyone why he is a living legend in the world of Punjabi music.

The September 2 event, organised by Karam Hundal of JK Star Productions and Khush Warring Productions, saw Maan taking to the stage at about 8pm amidst thunderous applause and a sea of excited fans. This concert was part of Maan’s ‘Akhiyan Udeek Diya Tour’.

Dressed in his signature Punjabi attire, Maan, who performed in New Zealand after five years, began the night with an ode to the almighty, and led to a medley of his timeless classics such as ‘Ki Banu Duniya Da’ and ‘Mamla Gadbad Hai’, keeping the audience captivated throughout the evening.

Maan's powerful vocals and charismatic stage presence had the audience of several hundreds swaying to the music, singing along, and dancing in the aisles.

One of the standout moments of the night at South Auckland’s Due Drop Events Centre was when the 66-year-old performed his iconic song ‘Challa’. The entire arena resonated with emotion as the audience sang along.

Another heartwarming moment of the evening was when Maan paid tribute to famous Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who was killed in 2022. Calling him “pyari shaksiyat (lovable personality)”, and saying “Sidhu Moose Wala Dil vich hai (Sidhu Moosewala lives in our hearts)”, a visibly emotional Maan dedicated his song ’Tareyaan Di Chunni Vali Muk Gayi E Raat Kaali’ to the late singer.

Throughout his performance, Maan kept taking moments to interact with his fans, expressing his gratitude for their unwavering support over the years. “I can’t thank the wonderful audience for bestowing me with so much love and affection for last so many years. Your love motivates me every time I come on stage.”

As the concert reached its climax, Maan belted out his chart-topping hit, ‘Ki Banu Duniya Da’, which had the entire venue erupting in applause.

Recollecting his experience, Pawandeep Singh of Kiwiana Immigration, one of the sponsors of the event, said, "I feel so connected to my roots when I listen to Gurdas Maan. This concert was a celebration of who we are and where we come from. His voice transcends generations, uniting fans young and old in a shared love for Punjabi music.”

Another attendee, Sharanpreet Singh, added, "I've waited years to see Gurdas Maan live, and tonight was a dream come true. Maan saab’s ability to connect with the audience added a personal touch to the performance, making it a truly memorable experience. The concert was more than just a musical event; it celebrated Punjabi culture and heritage.”

The organiser, too, seemed happy with the response. Hundal told The Indian Weekender, "Gurdas Maan is a living legend. Our main motive to organise this event was to promote our culture and keep everyone connected to our roots.

“Seeing how everyone loved Maan saab's music and live performance was overwhelming. These events are not only for entertainment, but they keep us connected to culture and our language.”
