The Auckland Malayali Samajam's Kalolsavam 2023, a children's arts festival, was a melting pot of talent and creativity.
The Blockhouse Bay Community Centre event witnessed a remarkable turnout, with all the three stages packed with talented young minds, their proud parents, and arts enthusiasts from the Malayali community and beyond.
The festival, which took place on July 15, 2023, kicked off at 8am, as young performers took to the stage to showcase their artistic prowess.
From mesmerising traditional classical dances to captivating modern cinematic performances, the audience was treated to diverse creative expressions. Their stunning performances brought smiles to everyone's face and showcased the rich cultural heritage of the southern Indian state of Kerala.
Blessan M Jose, President of Auckland Malayali Samajam, the largest Malayali association in Oceania, said, "We are delighted to acknowledge and applaud the exceptional talent displayed by the young participants in our recent Children's Art Festival.
“It is truly inspiring to witness their creativity and artistic abilities at such a young age. These talented children have not only showcased their skills but have also brought joy and enriched our community through their artwork.
We are proud to have provided a platform for their talents to shine and look forward to fostering more opportunities for young artists to thrive and bring joy to the community.”
The event coordinators, Julie Vinu, Daisy Sujo and Archa Ravikumar, who worked tirelessly to ensure the festival's success, deserve a special mention.
The event featured various competitions, including classical dance, classical music, cinematic dance, film song, mimicry, fancy dress, recitation, painting, drawing, and poetry writing.
A unique and entertaining contest, 'Kiddies Smiling’ also brought an extra touch of joy and laughter to the event, becoming the day's highlight.
The young performers' hard work and dedication were rewarded as the winners of each event received medals and certificates.
“The coveted titles of Kalathilakam and Kalaprathibha will be bestowed upon the most outstanding participants at the upcoming mega Onam day on August 19, 2023,” said Blessan, while thanking all the committee members for making the event a success.
The delightful spread of traditional Kerala cuisine at the food stalls added to the festival's allure. Attendees were treated to a delectable culinary experience that heightened the cultural atmosphere of the event.
One of the attendees, Arati Reddy, said. "The festival provided a fun-filled environment for kids and families to come together, creating unforgettable memories, laughter, and joy for all involved.”
