Get future ready with micro-credentials

Minoo Verghese, an Indian student at Future Skills Academy, recently delved into the impact of Covid-19 on student retention as part of her studies. She successfully completed the Data for Decision Making course, which is one of the micro-credentials offered in the Business Intelligence suite at the academy.

With a strong academic background encompassing master's degrees in science, professional business studies, and marketing and HR, Verghese initially lacked experience in IT before enrolling in the Business Intelligence short course.

However, she found the course to be a valuable experience, highlighting the comprehensive guidance provided to students throughout the process while allowing them to explore and learn independently.

As part of her micro-credential requirements, she undertook a project focusing on the impact of the pandemic on school-leavers in New Zealand. Her research involved analysing a vast database containing more than 347,000 records and 27 variables.

Reflecting on the scope of her project, Verghese remarked, β€œI probably would be able to do a thesis on this if I were to pursue the study at a PhD level,” she says.

She examined student retention rates following the pandemic, considering various factors such as ethnicity, gender, educational level, and region.

She found the exploration intriguing and expressed her intention to delve deeper into this subject, leveraging it for personal development and advancing her career.

β€œIt has been interesting for me, and I will probably go on further in learning more and use it for my personal development in my career.”
