Kiwi-Indian Jason Joshi’s song aims to inspire positivity

Spanish cellist Pablo Casals said, "Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart."

Inspired by this sentiment, Auckland-based Kiwi-Indian singer and composer Jason Joshi has recently released his debut song titled ‘Karam Kiye Jaa’.

The song is gaining traction on social media, having garnered nearly 70,000 views on YouTube.

The Indian Weekender had the opportunity to sit down with Joshi and delve deeper into his inspiration behind the song and the journey of its creation. Joshi, who also works in the property sector, shared his thoughts on the importance of aligning one's passions with their purpose.

Joshi explains his journey of self-realisation played a significant role in the creation of the song. Having discovered his dharma, or purpose, a few years ago, he sought to align his passion for music with his mission to help others achieve more, earn more, and give more.

Joshi emphasises the song transcends his personal ownership, expressing the belief that creativity is a gift “bestowed upon us by the universe”.

"The song doesn't belong to just me," Joshi says. "We are the creative gift of this universe, and while we may think what we create is ours, in reality, the universe gives us the ability to create only to amplify our creativity back to the universe."

He touched upon the prevailing global issues of high suicide rates and depression, attributing them to unmet expectations. He stressed the importance of finding happiness from within rather than seeking validation from others.

“I believe our happiness can only come from within...not from others. Living, giving or doing anything with expectations will always bring disappointment. People need to stop seeking validation from others. I would encourage individuals to focus on their own actions, or ‘karam’, without any expectations. Individuals can achieve new heights by consistently and committedly pursuing personal growth,” he says.

When asked why he chose to focus on the concept of karam, Joshi explained the song holds a special place in his heart as a source of positive affirmation.

“I recognise the need for hard work and self belief to reach my fullest potential, emphasising the importance of trust in the process and maintaining a routine with commitment and consistency. The song's lyrics engrave the three vital elements of success - commitment, consistency, and coaching - which I see as essential for achieving personal and professional goals.”

Regarding preparations for the song, Joshi revealed the seed for ‘Karam Kiye Jaa’ was planted before the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the song's development occurred during the challenging times of the pandemic.

Despite encountering significant obstacles along the way, Joshi remained patient, committed and persistent.

On a parting note, Joshi says, “I would want more and more people to support the ‘Karam Kiye Jaa’ concept. Do share and incorporate the concept to help your friends, families and community to avoid miseries, such as mental health. If you haven't yet seen the video, search ‘Karam Kiye Jaa’ on YouTube”.
