Indian stand-up comedian Jaspreet Singh wowed audiences in New Zealand during his recent tour, which included shows in Auckland and Christchurch.

The 31-year-old took to the stage in Christchurch on May 4, 2023, entertaining crowds at Westend Event Centre. Organised by Bollysphere and Fume with Harman Deep, the show was sponsored by Sandeep Khanna Mortgages, Arise Financial Services, and DigiComet.

The next day, Singh performed at AUT in Auckland, showcasing his unique brand of comedy that has made him popular in the Indian circuit.

He is known for his sharp observational comedy and inimitable style, drawing on his personal experiences growing up in a Sikh family in Punjab.

Singh has said in interviews he always wanted to become a comedian, having been inspired by legendary Indian comedians Johnny Lever and Bhagwant Mann. Before becoming a full-time comedian, Singh did theatre, wrote scripts, and was also a member of his college’s Bhangra dance group.

Singh’s rise to fame began in 2017 when his YouTube video ‘Dad, Savings aur Milk’ went viral. He has since performed at nearly 1,000 shows all over India and across the globe, including in the US, the UK, Australia, Vietnam, Qatar and UAE.

Speaking about his passion for comedy, Singh says, “I love doing real-life comedy. I want people to relate to my stories. I don’t write fiction. All my jokes are based on my life; my style is a mix of anecdotal and observational comedy.”

During his shows in New Zealand, Singh shared hilarious stories about his parents, his friends and growing up as the youngest of three brothers.

Preet Kaur, who attended the Christchurch show, said, “Jaspreet is extremely funny. He has a great style. I have been following him for many years and finally got this opportunity to see him perform live. I also grew up in Punjab, and his observations are spot on. He has a unique ability to engage and connect with his audience. Even his crowd work was absolutely hilarious.”

Both the Christchurch and Auckland shows were sold out, with the audience clamouring for more. Singh wrapped up both shows with a standing ovation.

Bollysphere, the event company that organised Singh’s shows, has become known for bringing popular comedy stars to New Zealand, which have been a hit with Kiwi-Indian audiences.

The company is set to bring Gaurav Kapoor and Gaurav Gupta to New Zealand on May 27, promising more laughs and entertainment for comedy lovers.
