Kiwi-Indian hopes to cut the marketing clutter with holographic displays

Kiwi-Indian entrepreneur Oliver Martis is making his mark in the country’s technology arena with his new business venture revolving around holographic blades.

Martis, who hails from Mumbai, migrated to New Zealand to pursue an MBA degree in 2009, after completing his Bachelor of Business course in India.

Talking about the challenges he faced during his initial days in New Zealand, the 37-year-old says, "I worked in Mumbai with some big brands for several years at an executive level. This experience on my profile helped me get an MBA admission, but I found it relatively harder to get my first job with that overseas experience. However, as most migrants, we are resilient and highly self-driven. Once we get going, there is very little stopping us…Working life in Mumbai was much faster and competitive; that experience has shaped me to sail through my NZ career.”

Martis says his interest in technology comes from growing up in an era when the mobile phone and computer industries were up and coming in India.

“I love technology. I was raised in an era where mobile phones, desktops and laptops were all evolving with us. Many would argue that the tech sector in New Zealand is quite slow when compared to bigger and faster economies around the world, but this is always an opportunity in tech since the whole world has gone digital post-2020,” he says.

Martis believes change is the only constant in life, and marketing is the catalyst for that change. Putting his point forward, he says, “We have witnessed the world move and adapt how they do business after the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Consumers are exposed to digital marketing feeds more than ever. In such a competitive digital era, the ones that do something different are the ones who have the advantage.”

His eyes light up as the topic of discussion shifts to his new venture, Holographic Blades. “It is a new, innovative signage solution that guarantees customer's attention to any business owner. We are the next era in digital advertising powered by enthralling 3D holographic technology. Once you see it…you will never forget it. We are innovators in effective signage solutions. Through mesmerising displays, we make passers-by stop, watch and wonder,” he says.

Martis says technology is pushing the boundaries when it comes to traditional static signage, posters and banners. “Businesses need something new as customers want to see things they have never seen before. Something that makes brands stand out. We are confident we have the technology to make all of the above possible.”

Talking about his plans, Martis, who stays in Auckalnd with his wife and two daughters, says, “We will be opening up franchise opportunities end of the year for our holographic signage business nationwide for anyone who wants to be a part of the future of advertising.”

On a parting note, he has a message for migrants who aspire to make it big in New Zealand in the technology sector. "If you want something you don't have, you must start doing something you have never done. Coming to NZ was the hardest part, now that we are here, why stop?” he says.
