The Soni Samaj New Zealand is set to host another exciting edition of Garba & Dandiya Night on Saturday, 6 May 2023, at The Lynnfield Youth & Leisure Centre, Auckland. This is the first Garba and Dandiya event for 2023 in our community prior to winter setting in.
The Soni Samaj NZ is a community association that brings together people of a common Gujarati descent, with their ancestors having emigrated from the Indian state of Gujarat to different parts of the world, including Fiji, before settling in NZ. In addition to encouraging cultural and sporting activities, it also engages in humanitarian work regularly.
Jitesh Raniga, the President of Soni Samaj NZ, expressed his excitement for the event, saying that they expect a great turnout and participation from the community. Garba is a Gujarati folk dance celebrated in Navratri, a celebration lasting nine nights. We are working with our wider Indian community to promote our cultural heritage.
“Prior to winter setting in, members and their families have been eagerly awaiting this first Garba event of 2023. It serves as an occasion not only to showcase the community's rich culture but also as a time to meet with friends in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.”
He added that though traditionally celebrated later in the year, "We are bringing the excitement of Garba & Dandiya a little earlier."
The event promises to be a cultural extravaganza, showcasing the rich Indian heritage and culture. In addition, it will allow people to connect, socialise and have fun in a safe and fun environment.
The event will feature several stalls with food, drinks, snacks, and gifts for purchase. Participation is expected from all age groups and a wide cross-section of families.
The Soni Samaj NZ also hosts other important events on the community's calendar, including a Diwali, Mothers Day, Fathers Day and Sneh Milan events.
These events are well attended and looked forward to, allowing the community to come together and celebrate their culture and heritage.
