High time Kiwi-Indians get what they deserve: National MP Todd McClay

National Party leader Christopher Luxon is scheduled to speak at an upcoming event in Auckland that will delve into the potential Kiwi-Indians hold for New Zealand’s economy.

Organisers say India-NZ Summit endeavours to strengthen ties between the two countries. Hosted by National MP for Rotorua and Spokesperson for Agriculture and Trade, Todd McClay, the event will have Opposition leader Luxon join a group of expert speakers. Former MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi will be the emcee.

The event will take place on April 18, 2023, from 10am to 3.30pm at South Auckland’s Swaminarayan Complex, and organisers say they are expecting a turnout of about 250 people.

McClay told The Indian Weekender, “The response from everyone towards this event has been exceptional. The event will have many highlights, including a speech by our leader Christopher Luxon setting his vision for the country and particularly the importance and significance of the Kiwi Indians for New Zealand and its economic growth. He will also reveal a policy to strengthen that relationship further.”

McClay also revealed there would be panel discussions on building a closer relationship centred on immigration and workforce, education, and law and order with National leaders like Erica Stanford and Mark Mitchell among others.

He says, "Kiwi-Indians are very concerned and frustrated about the deteriorating law and order situation, stringent immigration processes, as well as depleting education level in NZ. This event will allow them to voice their opinion on issues concerning them and how they should be dealt with."

Talking about the relationship between India and New Zealand, McClay says, “There is a lot more that needs to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. New Zealand needs to take its relationship with India seriously, as Kiwi Indians have been relentlessly contributing to New Zealand's progress. Much more effort must be put into improving the relationship between India and NZ. The influence of Kiwi Indians has grown over the years, and it is high time they get what they deserve – a safe and affordable living with a high standard of education for their kids."

The Indian Weekender and Radio Tarana are media partners for the event. The event is open to Kiwi Indians and Fiji Indians, and others who share this relationship's importance. The summit is free to attend.
