Jalsa Talent Show Season 4 kicked off with its first round on April 2, 2023, held at Courtyard in Sydenham. The local talent show organised by Jalsa Fiji Radio has been providing a platform for talents from all ethnic communities, be it singing, dancing, poetry recital or musical instrument talent.

The show helps local talent to showcase their skills to a broader audience and to be recognised. Groups and participants from different ethnicities, including Rebel Roots, Soul Tribe and Brazilian Beats, have been a part of the show in the past.

The hosting duties for the first round of the talent show were fulfilled by RJ Krish and Jibby Isaac, who were an absolute delight and kept the entire event running smoothly with their witty hosting style.

The show is being judged by popular singer Cma, known for her soulful singing style. She appreciated the contestants’ talent and provided valuable feedback to help them improve their skills.

In the opening round, three participants showcased their vocal talents. Varinder Singh delivered a soulful rendition of the legendary Mohammad Rafi’s ‘Kya hua tera vada’’ and impressed the judges. Bob Nandan performed a beautiful version of the classical number ‘Tum aa gaye ho, noor aa gaya hai’. The third contestant, Uthara Varma, displayed her impressive vocal range with her performance of ‘Mere khwabon me jo aaye’.

The event also had guest performers Vivek Prakash and Avi Aulukh, who teaches Bhangra at NZ Bhangra Academy based in Rolleston in Christchurch. The show will have six rounds held monthly on Sunday nights. The finale will be held in October or November, which will be a big public event.

Vinesh Prakash, Director of Jalsa Fiji Radio, said, “It is great to be a part of this effort to recognise the local talent. Events like this are essential to discover upcoming artists and showcase their talents to the wider communities. We are happy to be a part of their journey.”
