Person injured in a Christchurch serious assault believed to be Indian

A man has been arrested and charged after an alleged serious assault in Christchurch that occurred last night(Friday night) on Linwood Ave between 7:30 and 8 pm, near Linwood Park. 

A person, believed to be of Indian descent, was taken to Christchurch Hospital with severe injuries.

Police launched an investigation into the assault and put a scene guard in place overnight while a scene examination took place. 

On Saturday morning, a statement was released by the police stating that a 31-year-old man had been arrested on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. 

He is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Saturday.

"We would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information relating to it."

The investigation team is particularly interested in speaking with a woman who was waiting at a bus stop near the site of the assault before the altercation took place. She may have witnessed something suspicious and could provide valuable information to the investigation.

The police have urged members of the public who witnessed the incident or have any information related to it to come forward. 

In addition, the police have requested anyone with a dashcam or CCTV footage relevant to the incident to come forward with their evidence.
