Master, Miss Teen NZ sparkle

Every teenager that participated in last weekend’s Tanya Arts-Indian Weekender presented Miss and Master Teen India contest – irrespective of whether they won the top accolades or not – showed the audience what a bright future lay ahead of them, as they strutted in the arc lights brimming with confidence and showcasing their talent with such elan.

The show was a resounding success, thanks to them and the dedicated teams that worked backstage for months. Everyone’s hard work shone throughout the event. The audience lapped it all up throughout the four-hour show.

Both girls and boys looked fabulous in their stylish outfits – Western and Indian for the girls and emerging styles of Indian garments for boys that were all trendy.

The crowd went into a tizzy showering every participant with rounds of spontaneous applause as each model displayed their catwalk, styles and personality.

It was a tough competition between the contestants until the eminent judges found the top six and after that it was all about their individual calibre and overall performance. Judges took their time to declare the result and come up with the right decision.

Apart from the awards and accolades that the participants won, the grand prize of the event is a chance to gain exposure in Bollywood, thanks to the offer by one of the judges, noted Bollywood director Roopesh Rai Sikand, who will promote their talent in one of the world’s great movie industries – Bollywood.

Mr Sikand, who came all the way from India (and was featured in Indian Weekender issue of February 4), was one of four judges at the event: Justin Brown, well known presenter of 97.4 FM, writer and editor, Farida Master (former editor of several top Indian publication and Indian Weekender columnist) and Arnold du Toit, ex-Mr. World New Zealand.

Tanya Arts has given a terrific platform to these talented teenagers to display their talent and gain confidence as they were put through the paces in a highly disciplined routine across three months. Their style and elan carried the day despite a couple of co-ordination malfunctions. Organiser Tanya Mehra taught these teens to give their hundred percent throughout the preparation phase.

Six boys and girls each were shortlisted from contestants twice than number for both sexes.
The top six were:

Miss Teen: Syba, Mona, Jyne, Jannine, Sheyleen, Jyo
Master Teen: Vinny, Nikhil, Jai, Hotanya, Richie, Imran

And the winners are…

Syba Dhatt who was sponsored by “Poojaz Desiner Fashions” won the The Miss Teen title and Richie Agarwal scooped Master Teen. Jannine and Nikhil were the first runners up while Vinny Dhatt and Sheyleen were adjudged second runners up.

Every participant was recognised for their talents, style and appearance and were awarded multiple prizes and titles in a range of categories.

The fillers were equally absorbing and the performances memorable. The groups who performed on the night were Beat Box, Khote Sikkay, Brahmacharis and future Miss and Master Teen. The crowd went wild and crazy.

“I am just a trainer and the rest totally depend upon the participants,” Tanya Mehra told Indian Weekender. “In my three months’ training, I always taught my participants to be responsible, have faith, commitment, respect for your elders/parents, and of course for the Judges and their final decisions.”

She says wins and losses are milestones in life and one must learn from them. “As far as I am concerned they all are winners for me and we all are like a family.”

The show that drew dozens of sponsors was made possible by the tireless efforts of Faisal, Harneet Kaur, Manan Walia , Raja Sandhu , Jazil Mistry, Shiva Mandap, Club Sapphire ,Fozia Yousuf , Street Cred.
