A perfect tribute to Saroj Khan
Aucklanders had a gala at the recently held musical event Khamoshiyan Gun Gunane Lagi 6. The evening, which took place on Saturday (September 10) at the Dorothy Winstone Centre, had talented singers paying a singing tribute to legendary choreographer Saroj Khan.
The event was organised by Vidya Teke, an artiste par excellence who runs the Arohi Academi of Music in Auckland. For the uninitiated, Vidya, along with her husband Shekhar Teke, has been organising Khamoshiyan Gun Gunane Lagi event based on different Bollywood themes to give classic entertainment to the Kiwi Indian community for years now.
Vidya, the lead singer for the show, was accompanied by other talented singers such as Ankita Ghatani, Rachit Bhatia, Ravi Shetty, Shweta Shirsat, Hemant Shirsat and Arif Zia, among others for this sixth edition.
Talking to Indian Weekender about the overwhelming response to the show that saw the presence of hundreds of people, Teke said, “I was such a successful show. We got great feedback from the audience. The vibe was happy and cheerful. Especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, it was a great evening to unwind and enjoy for our audiences. After the show, many people have told me that the bar of Khamoshiyan Gun Gunane Lagi has been raised this year. I am already feeling the pressure to do something grander next year for Khamoshiyan Gun Gunane Lagi 7, which will be a tribute to late legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra."
Singer Ankita Ghatani expressed her desire to do more shows with Teke. She said, “I was happy to be a part of KGGL6. It was a great experience giving tribute to our legendary choreographer Saroj Khan whose dance moves continue to stay with us forever. The songs, artists, musicians, the whole package was one of a kind.
I'm looking forward to doing many more such shows with Vidya ji and the team of great musicians.”
Bhav Dhillon, Hon Consul of India in Auckland, who graced the occasion, showered praises on Vidya. He said, "Vidya Teke is an established singer and a valued member of our diaspora in Auckland. Her concert Khamoshian Gun Gunane Lagi, which celebrated legendary choreographer Saroj Khan was a big hit.”

Guests too also enjoyed the show and had praises for the organisers.
