Wellington community marks Guru Nanak Gurpurab in a unique way
Happy Gurpurab 2021: Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most auspicious festivals in Sikhism that is celebrated all over the globe.
This year, it falls on Friday, November 19.
It will mark the 552nd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first of the ten Sikh gurus.
It is one of the most important festivals in Sikhism, as it is believed that Guru Nanak Dev Ji brought enlightenment to this world.
The festival is celebrated fifteen days after Diwali, on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima.
This year, the festivities in Auckland are subdued due to the ongoing lockdown.
In Wellington, the Kiwi Indian community was joined by the wider community to celebrate this day in a unique way, outside the New Zealand Parliament.
The Inter Faith community group joined by EKTA new Zealand, held a small yet meaningful celebration.
The main teachings of Guru Nanak, universal brotherhood and the concept of sharing was aptly displayed as the event was followed by the traditional Guru Ka Langar.
You can watch the event on the Indian Weekender Facebook page, where it was live streamed.
