Albert-Eden Local Board is calling for nominations for the Albert-Eden Local Heroes Award 2021 to be held later this year.
The purpose of this call is to honour the locals who worked selflessly in the Albert-Eden community by shining a spotlight on them.
The judge's panel is looking for exceptional people in the Albert-Eden Local Board area who have delivered outstanding service for the community which benefits the people, communities or the environment in Albert-Eden.
"We know there are people in our community who work tirelessly for the welfare of others or the environmental space. As a board, we want to thank them and acknowledge the invaluable contribution they make to our local area," Margi Watson, chair of Albert-Eden Local Board said.
Previously, people working in a wide range of sectors from environmental conservation to the arts and various capacities have been honoured for their contribution.
Susan Li Kwan, the Chairperson of the Epsom Chinese Association, was acknowledged for the group's work in the community at the previous Awards.
The Epsom Chinese Association aims to integrate Chinese and NZ culture by holding activities and classes to teach members NZ culture and promote traditional Chinese culture.
"It is rewarding for volunteers to know that their hard work is recognised. This encourages them to keep on working for the community," Kwan says.
Who is eligible?
The emphasis of this award is voluntary contributions of community members, and the Local Board also acknowledged that many people go above and beyond their paid positions in their work for the community.
"The local board wants to recognise often unnoticed efforts made by individuals, groups or organisations which benefit the communities within the Albert-Eden Local Board area," Kwan says.
It's important to note that those acknowledged previously in 2019 are not eligible for this years' Awards. For further details and to nominate, click here. Nominations close 28 February 2021 midnight.
