A Kiwi-Indian migrant couple living in Rotorua is requesting assistance from the community as their visiting father was stuck in New Zealand due to Covid-19 restrictions and feel sick earlier last month needing life care in hospital.
Kanchan Joshi’s father Bala Datt Bawari came to see his daughter and family in November 2019 and had his return flight booked on March 25, 2020, due to Covid global travel restrictions.
On July 14, Kanchan’s father suddenly started having breathing issues and was admitted to ICU Rotorua Hospital and diagnosed with Pleural Effusion. After a week in ICU and then to the general ward, he was discharged on July 22.
He was again admitted to Rotorua General Hospital with added ailments that included low function of kidney, heart and lungs and is getting treatment there.
Kanchan lives in Rotorua with her husband Tara Chandra Joshi who is on a work visa and their seven-year-old son Dhruv.
Both Kanchan and her husband Tara lost their jobs during the Covid-19 and have now been hit with piling hospital bills of their ailing father.
The couple’s friend Bipul Das has set up a Givealittle page to get help from the community to cover hospital bills of the family in their tough times.
“The average cost per day is around NZ$4000, and they are not sure how long or is there a road to recovery.
“We know this is a tough time for many due to COVID-19, your act of kindness by donating any amount will mean the world to this family,” Bipul Das, a friend of the family posted on Givealittle page.
