For the first time ever, a Sikh man has been elected as the president of Rotary Club Papatoetoe Central in Auckland, New Zealand.
Kulbir Singh is one of the founding member of the Rotary Club Papatoetoe Chapter that was established in 2015. At the annual team changeover function earlier this month at Mehmaan Indian Restaurant in Howick, Mr Singh was elected to lead the club’s Papatoetoe Central chapter.
Mr Singh’s team includes a number of philanthropist professionals such as Lawyers, Teachers, financial advisors, businessmen etc. who look after different operations of the club in the community.

Mr Singh’s vibrant team includes Manu Singh, Raj Pradeep Singh, Yashveen Singh, Sunil Aggarwal, PJ Dhatt, Deepak Sharma, Gurjinder Singh, Raj Chand, Akhilesh Chaudhary, Praveen Chand, Nek Mohammed, Gurjinder Ghuman, Karnail Singh, Daman Kaur, Nikita Chand, Naleen Chand, Jaspinder Kaur, Gurpreet Kaur, Aloka Peacock, Mushtaq Sheikh and many more.
Rotary Club of Papatoetoe Central was established is a charitable organisation working with local professionals to raise funding for a good cause.
The Papatoetoe Chapter has collaborated, raised funds and donated to non-profit organisations such as KidsCan, Fiji Foundation, St John’s Ambulance, Starship Foundation, through its various fundraising drives, especially the annual Indian Diaspora Night & Fundraising Dinner event that hosts dignitaries, business magnates and leaders from the community.
“The function was filled with vibrant people who are deeply passionate to serve and guide the community to better light,” Raj Pardeep Singh, Rotary Director for Public Relations for the year 2020-21 told The Indian Weekender.
“As the new role of Public Relations, my job is to make people aware of Rotary Club and activities in and around New Zealand,” he added.
Speaking about the first Sikh man to be appointed as president in a Rotary Club, Mr Raj Pardeep Singh said, “Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, colour, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity,”.
Rotary Club of Papatoetoe Central chapter is completing its five years of establishment and is one of the youngest chapters of the Rotary Club in New Zealand.
