The best in Punjabi entertainment is set to hit Auckland next week.

Manmohan Waris, one of the top Punjabi singers in the world, partners Kamalheer in a grand Punjabi Virsa night at the Telstra Events Centre in Manukau on August 8. Programme starts at 7pm.

Manmohan has been around for almost 16 years now and he learned the regional classical music from Jaswant Bhanvra Ji, along with his brothers.

Since he released his first album Gairan Naal Peenghan Jhootdeye in 1993, he has never looked back. Punjabis around the world love him and he feels the pressure of not letting them down. His humbleness and sincerity has won many hearts.

His voice is considered one of the sweetest around and his songs attest to his passion for clean and literary lyrics. Manmohan Waris has had a legendary and spectacular singing career. So far he has released 20 albums.

Born into a farming family in the village of Halluwal, Punjab, he had a great interest in music since an early age. He started his formal music training at the age of 11. Everything he learned from his Guru, he taught his younger brothers. So all three brothers got seriously involved in music at a very early age. The family initially moved to Canada but now have returned to India – where majority of their fans are.

He got his music degree from Punjab University. But the most influential music Guru he had was Shree Jaswant Singh Bhanwra. Unlike many other Punjabi singers who also learned music from Shree Jaswant Singh Bhanwra, the Guru did not teach him so called "Lok-Gaayiki", he insisted on teaching him the real music he knew himself. He saw a great singer in Manmohan and he wanted him to shine.

In 2004, Manmohan and  his brothers did the Punjabi Virsa 2004 concert/tour/live album. The concert/tour and live album and DVD all became immensely popular and is considered one of the best ever in Punjabi music.

It was such a success that they came back the next year for Punjabi Virsa 2005-Waris Punjab De. It also became popular. Thereafter they have been doing it every year and this year in 2009, the Punjabi Virsa concert/tour is being brought to New Zealand by Deep Entertainment Limited who is a very successful show organiser who recently brought the world famous Jazzy Bains concert to Auckland.

The concert is being held on Saturday August 8, 7pm at Telstra Pacific Events Centre Manukau. Tickets prices are starting from $40 with VIP at $60 and family pass at $120. These are also available at all leading Indian outlets. For more details contact Inderjit Kalkat on 021783488 or Raja Brali on 0274957314.
