Zakir Hussain Critical, But Has Not Passed

Ustad Zakir Hussain, the renowned tabla virtuoso, has been hospitalised in San Francisco in "serious condition," according to reports on Sunday. While millions of fans worldwide prayed for his recovery, rumors about his death began circulating late into the night on social media and news websites like The Times Of India and The Economic Times reported his death.

According to a PTI report, Hussain was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following serious concerns about his heart. His long-time friend and celebrated flautist, Rakesh Chaurasia, confirmed the news of his passing away in an earlier article published by The Times Of India, sharing that Hussain had been battling health challenges, including blood pressure complications.

However, amid the circulating reports, Hussain's publicist confirmed to PTI that the legendary percussionist is being treated at the hospital and "has not passed." Tributes flooded in from top politicians, business leaders, athletes, and film celebrities. However, his nephew, Ameer Aulia, later took to an unverified social media account to clarify that the maestro was "very much alive." He urged people to disregard the false reports and requested prayers for his uncle’s health. “I am Zakir Hussain’s nephew, and he has not passed away. Please remove this misinformation. He is in serious condition, and we ask for prayers for his recovery,” Aulia posted.
