Women’s Wellness, Family Services & Breast Screenings At NZICA Expo

NZICA is hosting Health & Wellbeing Expo on 24 Nov 2024

The New Zealand Indian Central Association (NZICA) is set to host its Health & Wellbeing Expo on Sunday, 24 November 2024, inviting Aucklanders and beyond to experience a day of health, wellness, and cultural connection. This free event, held at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is expected to attract over 700 attendees, including visitors from outside Auckland, to engage with local health organisations, businesses, and wellness advocates.

A Day of Health and Community Unity

NZICA, an organisation with a nearly century-long legacy in cultural preservation and community well-being, aims to make this year’s Expo a unique platform for enhancing health knowledge and promoting lifestyle improvements.

The event will begin with a traditional Diya lighting led by Shefali Mehta, accompanied by speeches from prominent guests, including NZICA President Narendra Bhana, former MP Kanwal Jit Singh Bakshi, and Auckland Indian Association President Puspa Lekinwala. Following the speeches, enjoy a Bharatanatyam dance performance by Anuradha School of Dance, followed by the Auckland Indian Association Inc—health & Fitness Group's Bollyrobix showcase.

Exhibitors: A diverse range of organisations and businesses will participate, including:

The NZICA Health & Wellbeing Expo will host an extensive lineup of organisations and service providers dedicated to enhancing health, safety, and community support for attendees. Participating groups include The Asian Network Inc, Asian Health Services, Heart Foundation – Healthy Heart Check, Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ, and TULIP Financial Services Ltd. Additionally, Tapan Dave from Barfoot & Thompson, Exotic Holidays, Family Fitness NZ Ltd, and Prana Physiotherapy & Wellness Centre will be present, offering various wellness resources.

Also joining are AIAI – Health & Fitness Group, Drowning Prevention Auckland, Surf Life Saving North Region, and Murray Halberg Retirement Village (Ryman Healthcare), alongside Red Synergy NZ, Public Trust (Massey), and St John Ambulance. Health-focused organisations such as the Breast Cancer Foundation, Well Women and Family Trust, BreastScreen Auckland Central (WDHB), and Asian Family Services will provide attendees with crucial health services and information.

Rounding out the lineup are the National Bowel Screening Programme, Roopa Aur Aap, NZ Police, Muskaan Care Trust, and the New Zealand Blood Service, ensuring a comprehensive range of resources covering health screenings, safety education, wellness advocacy, and financial guidance. This gathering promises to foster community well-being and provide vital services to Auckland’s diverse population.

 In addition to TULIP Financial Services Ltd., Prana Physiotherapy & Wellness Centre, Muskaan Care Trust NZ, and Surf Life Saving North Region, several other organisations will be providing resources at the event:  

Attendees will have access to a wide array of health resources and services provided by various organisations, including:

Well Women and Family Trust: This nurse-led organisation provides cervical screening, sexual health services, and contraception support for women aged 18 to 70. Their booth will offer insights into women’s health and the HPV self-swab test, free for eligible residents and work visa holders.


  Asian Family Services: Funded by Te Whatu Ora, this organisation offers clinical and public health support with bilingual staff fluent in multiple Asian languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, and Korean. Their helpline is open to the community, offering vital support for a diverse range of mental health and wellness needs.


NZ Blood Service: Providing attendees with an opportunity to learn their blood type, NZ Blood will also educate visitors on blood donation’s life-saving impact and address eligibility and donor requirements to help New Zealand achieve self-sufficiency in blood supplies.

image002 BreastScreen Aotearoa: Aiming to reduce breast cancer risks, BreastScreen Aotearoa will offer free screening every two years for eligible women aged 45 to 69. Their mobile service expands accessibility, ensuring early detection services are available to a broader audience.

Organised with a focus on health promotion and community bonding, the NZICA Health & Wellbeing Expo will feature nutritious food from the Auckland Indian Association’s Catering Committee and interactive booths from organisations like TULIP Financial Services, Prana Physiotherapy, Muskaan Care Trust, Surf Life Saving North Region, and more.
