Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is preparing for a surge in visitor visa applications, with more than 260,000 expected over the summer peak period. To ensure smooth travel plans, INZ is urging prospective travellers to submit their visa applications as early as possible.

Jock Gilray, INZ’s Director of Visas, highlighted the importance of early application due to the high volumes anticipated. "New Zealanders are excited to welcome friends, family, and tourists from around the world this summer," he said. "We’re encouraging anyone planning to visit for Christmas to apply no later than 15 October 2024. For those arriving in the New Year, including during the Chinese Lunar New Year, the deadline is 15 November 2024."

Applications submitted after these dates may not be processed in time for intended travel, potentially disrupting plans.

To further streamline the visa process, INZ advises travellers to submit complete applications with all necessary documentation. "Incomplete applications, especially those missing supporting documents or English translations, are more likely to be delayed or declined," Gilray warned. "Submitting a complete application early ensures a faster decision, giving you more time to plan your trip."

Tips for a Faster Visa Application Process:

  • Valid Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure from New Zealand.
  • Clear Passport Scan: Provide a clear, scanned copy of the passport's bio page.
  • Acceptable Photo: Submit a photo that meets INZ’s requirements to avoid delays.
  • Accurate Details: Double-check personal details like name, passport number, and date of birth to ensure they match your passport.
  • Genuine Intentions: Include documentation showing your intent to visit temporarily and return home afterward.
  • English Documentation: Submit supporting documents in English or provide certified translations for non-English documents.

Travellers are advised to follow these guidelines to avoid delays and ensure they receive their visas in time for their trips to New Zealand.
