Trump's Running Mate's Faith Journey Supported By Hindu Wife

JD Vance, Donald Trump's running mate, the choice for Vice President, recently discussed his faith journey and the pivotal role his Hindu wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, played in it during an interview with Fox News.

Married since 2014 to Usha, whom he met at Yale Law School, Vance opened up about his upbringing as a Protestant and his gradual transition towards Catholicism, culminating in his baptism and confirmation in 2019 at St Gertrude Priory in Cincinnati, Ohio, as reported by The American Conservative.

New call-to-action

In his interview, Vance credited Usha for her unwavering support amid his religious quest, despite her own upbringing outside of Christianity. "I was never baptized. I was raised Christian but never baptized. I was first baptized in 2018. Usha was actually raised non-Christian. She is actually not Christian. But I remember when I started to re-engage with my own faith, Usha was very supportive," Vance revealed.

Mary Margaret Olohan, a journalist with The Daily Signal, shared a 54-second clip of Vance's interview on X, where he elaborated on Usha's influence: "JD Vance describes how his wife Usha, who is Hindu, encouraged and supported him in his search for his own Christian faith."

During the interview, Usha explained her perspective on supporting Vance's religious journey. "I did grow up in a religious household. My parents are Hindu. That is one of the reasons why they made such good parents. That made them very good people. And I think I have seen that power in my own life. And I knew that JD was searching for something. This just felt right for him," she shared.

Reflecting on their family life and shared values, Usha highlighted their open communication as key to their strong relationship. "And the answer really is, we just talk a lot," she added.

Before his current role as a senator representing Ohio, Vance worked as a venture capitalist and has been a vocal advocate for working-class Americans.

As Vance navigates his political career and personal beliefs, his partnership with Usha plays a crucial role in shaping his public and private life.
