Trains Back Up & Running In Auckland After Two Weeks

Trains are back up and running in Auckland after more than two weeks of a complete shutdown for major upgrades.
Wellington services have also returned after significant disruptions.
In Auckland, all freight had to go by road, and passengers by bus, over the relatively quiet Easter and Anzac period.
Much of the work was to get the network ready for when the City Rail Link opens next year, with an increase in the number of trains and passengers.
KiwiRail said all the work was completed on schedule and crews worked through the night to get some of it done.
It included upgrading stations or building new ones, improving signalling and doing track maintenance.
It was not the end of disruptions for the city though, with more expected during public and school holidays this year.
In Wellington and Wairarapa, there was either bus replacements or timetable restrictions over the same period.
It included work to stabilise slopes, improve tracks and some level crossings, and to upgrade the Remutaka tunnel.
