Police have arrested three youths believed to have been involved in a significant number of offences across the lower North Island, following a burglary early this morning.
Police were alerted to a burglary at a commercial premises in in Whanganui just before 1am.
A police spokesperson said a vehicle was used to gain entry to the store, however, they did not yet know what was stolen.
The group of alleged offenders fled the area in two vehicles, one of which had been reported stolen, the spokesperson said.
Police sighted the two vehicles of interest and signalled the vehicles to stop, however, the drivers failed to do so and fled.
A pursuit was initiated but abandoned after around five minutes due to the driving behaviour of the vehicles.
Shortly after, the vehicles were found abandoned on nearby streets, the spokesperson said.
At around 1.25am, police sighted a suspicious vehicle on State Highway 3 and signalled the vehicle to stop.
The vehicle failed to stop, and pursuit was abandoned once again due to the driving behaviour of the fleeing vehicle.
About 2am, the vehicle was spiked by police and it came to a stop.
The three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody at the scene without incident, and are due to appear in court at a later date, the spokesperson said.
