Teen Struck With Hammer After Road Rage Incident

A 16-year-old boy has been hospitalised with serious injuries after being hit on the head with a hammer after a car crash in Dunedin.

Police say the teen had to have surgery as a result of an altercation that followed a car crash on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident began about 1.30pm, when there was a crash involving two cars on Jetty Street.

One of the drivers left the scene, and was followed to McCrae Street by the other driver and a third car carrying two people who had witnessed the crash.

Police say one of the drivers was attacked by another 16-year-old boy.

 

A second person was also hurt.

Two Dunedin youths have been charged and were due to appear in the Dunedin Youth Court this morning.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and further charges may be laid.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident, or who may have dashcam footage which might help them.
