Legendary tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain has passed away at the age of 73 in the United States, leaving the music world in mourning. The iconic musician had been hospitalised in San Francisco due to severe health issues and was receiving treatment for heart-related complications.
According to a PTI report, Hussain was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following serious concerns about his heart. His long-time friend and celebrated flautist, Rakesh Chaurasia, confirmed the news, sharing that Hussain had been battling health challenges, including blood pressure complications.
“He was being treated for a heart-related issue and had been in the ICU for the past week,” Chaurasia told PTI. “Zakirji’s condition had everyone deeply concerned.”
An update about Hussain’s health had recently been shared on social media, alerting fans and well-wishers to his hospitalisation. Despite efforts by medical professionals, the maestro’s condition deteriorated.
