A daring early morning smash-and-grab at Dunedin’s Meridian Mall saw three thieves make off with stolen sunglasses and jewellery.

The break-in occurred around 3.30 am on Wednesday at the Hanover St entrance, setting off an alarm.

The trio targeted sunglasses from display cabinets at the Sunglass Hut kiosk and jewellery from Michael Hill Jewellery nearby.

Police, alerted by a security firm, arrived at the scene 30 minutes later, Sergeant Matthew Lee said. He confirmed that CCTV footage captured the incident.

The area was cordoned off as police conducted a scene examination.
