Following the success of the "Ayodhya in Eden Park" event in January 2024, the Hindu Organisations, Temples, and Associations (HOTA) Forum NZ has announced the launch of a significant initiative—the "Shri Hanuman Youth Centre." Unveiled at the Bharatiya Mandir in Auckland, this new project addresses public demand for a dedicated space to support youth, women, and elders. The centre aims to become a cultural hub, fostering empowerment, unity, and community engagement.
During the launch event, Shri Vinod Kumar, National Coordinator of HOTA Forum NZ, outlined the project’s main goals, while Shri Vinay Karanam, Regional Coordinator (Hamilton), presented its vision and scope. The initiative was met with enthusiasm from attendees, reflecting its importance in bridging cultural heritage with modern community needs.
Next Steps: Securing Land and Community Investment
The Shri Hanuman Youth Centre has now entered a critical phase of development. A piece of land on the outskirts of Auckland has been identified, and the next goal is to raise funds to secure it by October 20. The project takes inspiration from India’s Vivekananda Rock Memorial fundraising model and invites the Hindu community to contribute in increments of $5,000. Contributors will receive their investment back with an attractive 10% annual interest rate over five years.
"We are not asking for donations but offering an investment opportunity," explained Shri Vinod Kumar. "We just need expressions of interest before we move forward with legal documentation."
A Vision for the Future
The Shri Hanuman Youth Centre is envisioned as a multistorey facility dedicated to the development of individuals aged 18 to 35. It will focus on education, recreation, and leadership while also catering to women and elders. A 40-foot statue of Lord Hanuman will stand at the centre’s heart, symbolising strength and unity.
The centre’s design will feature seminar rooms, an exhibition area showcasing Indian heritage, and a rooftop vegetarian café, library, and event space. Outdoor facilities will include dormitories, sports arenas, and nature trails, all aimed at fostering holistic well-being.
