A significant number of homes are still without power in west Auckland, Coromandel and the Bay of Plenty.
About 300 homes in the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty are still without electricity, where earlier in the day more than 6000 properties were affected.
Powerco outages show power cuts mostly affecting Whangamatā.
But households in Tauranga, Waihi, Te Puke and Paeroa are also without power.
In Auckland, a large area of Muriwai, west of Auckland, still has no power.
A resident in Muriwai said that power had been restored briefly but his area was now cut off again.
Earlier on Monday in Auckland, outages were widespread across Auckland's North Shore from Albany and Browns Bay, to Mairangi Bay and Long Bay.
And a large area in the region's northwest up to Kumeū and Woodhill, also woke up without power.
Power has been restored to most areas, but provider Vector Electricity said it had not yet established the cause of the outage.
