A person has tragically died on a South Auckland train line, prompting major delays as emergency services respond.

According to a police spokesperson, the incident occurred near the level crossing on Walters Road, Takanini. All train services between Papakura and Homai have been cancelled indefinitely as authorities work to manage the situation.

Police remain at the scene, with cordons currently in place at the intersections of Walters Road with Arion and Great South Roads.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson confirmed that one fire engine was dispatched to the scene.

Baljinder Randhawa, a local resident, told the Herald he encountered the cordon while taking his children to school. He reported seeing at least 20 police officers, as well as personnel from KiwiRail, present at the site.

Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
