Mehfil e Saaz Aur Awaaz : Soulful Ghazal Night 2024 Captivates Auckland
The much-awaited Sham-E-Ghazal, Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan organised by the Urdu Hindi Cultural Association was an exciting mix of ghazals, shayari and poetry.
The event held February 10 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm at Fickling Convention Centre in Auckland was presided over by the association’s president, Roopa Suchdev.

Instrumentalists Khalid Hussein, Vimal Kumar, and Hament Kumar added a melodic dimension to the evening's enchantment.
The 13th edition of the magazine 'Dhanak' was launched by Hindi editor Rohit Kumar, accompanied by Roopa Suchdev, Mujeeb Syed, and Kulwant Minhas.
Ethnic Communities Minister Melissa Lee, Member of Parliament from Mt Roskill Carlos Cheung and Ella Kumar from the local board were among the attendees.
The event honored renowned community leader Suman Kapoor with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising her significant contributions. Melissa Lee presented the award to Suman Kapoor.
Among the performers were Khalid Hussein, Nisar Mirza, Vidya Teke, Jyoti Virk Klar, and Jaspreet Singh Kandhari, with Ayub Khan and Roshni Chadha serving as Master of Ceremonies.
Ghazal is a form of lyrical poetry in Urdu which expresses love, longing and separation. Shayari is another form of poetry in Urdu. So with all three forms of poetry, the evening promises was a brilliant musical start to the weekend.

President Roopa Suchdev expressed gratitude to the audience and participants, hoping that 'Mehfil-E-Saaz Aur Awaaz' not only highlighted the community's talents but also provided high-quality entertainment to a broader audience.
In addition to musical performances, the event featured notable speakers, including Ajaz Nusrat, Rahul Chopra, and Gurdeep Talwar, adding an intellectual and cultural dimension to the enchanting evening.
