A local community member shared the family’s message on social media, stating they were “overwhelmed” by the kindness shown. “The family wanted me to extend a huge thank you for all the support and love from the community and the Marae,” the post read.

A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, described the parents as being in a state of shock. “The family came here with their children a few months ago. It’s such a tragic incident. We are all with them.”

A family member also spoke to the media, calling the child “very active” and expressing disbelief at the loss. "It’s a very tragic time for us. We couldn’t imagine this in our worst nightmare."

Floral tributes were placed outside Taupiri Dairy, where the accident occurred. The toddler was the second child of a couple who lived at the residence with extended family.

According to police, the child died following a crash in the driveway. He was found in critical condition, and CPR was administered, but tragically, he could not be revived. The Serious Crash Unit conducted an investigation at the scene, with inquiries into the incident still ongoing.

It’s believed the child had been playing in the driveway at the time of the accident.
