Business management platform MYOB has recognised the dedication and contributions of local accountants, bookkeepers, and education providers through its 2024 MYOB Partner Awards. These awards celebrate the critical role these professionals play in driving the success of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across New Zealand and Australia.

Judged by a panel of MYOB experts alongside industry representatives, including Di Crawford-Errington, President of the Institute of Certified NZ Bookkeepers, and Liz Stamford, General Manager Smaller Practices at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), the awards showcase excellence across a wide array of categories.

Marking their 16th year, the awards highlighted standout performers in New Zealand. Hamilton-based Singh & Associates secured the prestigious Accounting Practice of the Year award, while JK Business Systems, also based in Hamilton and serving the Waikato region, earned Bookkeeping Practice of the Year.

Papakura-based family accounting practice Prudential Accounting & Taxation won two of the inaugural awards: the Bookkeeping Practice Award for Innovation and Impact and the MYOB Advocate of the Year. Partner and business manager Abhishek Garg said the practice has built a reputation for quality and service over 15 years, serving a diverse range of businesses across the country, from sole traders to large enterprises.

“Businesses are very value-conscious, which is why we have been such big advocates for MYOB,” Garg explained. “Trust also matters to our clients, so we concentrate on providing timely advice and great service to our clients at affordable costs. We’re also focused on giving back to our local community and supporting great local causes.”

In the education sector, Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University’s School of Accountancy was celebrated as Education Partner of the Year. This recognition acknowledges their efforts in integrating MYOB into their courses, providing students with practical tools to prepare for careers in accounting.

This year’s awards introduced new categories focusing on innovation and advocacy. Melbourne’s Accounts NextGen won the Accounting Practice Award for Innovation and Impact for leveraging technology to drive business gains and efficiency.

Celebrating Industry Impact

MYOB Chief Executive Officer Paul Robson highlighted the importance of the awards in acknowledging the sector’s contributions.

"The wide-ranging skills and talents of our local accountants and bookkeepers are integral to the businesses that power our economy," said Robson. "They offer trusted counsel and support businesses with tasks that allow them to focus on what they love and achieve their full potential."

Robson commended how the industry continues to adapt to a changing business landscape, embracing new technologies and workflows to ensure SME success. He also praised education providers for equipping future advisors with the tools and knowledge needed to excel.
