INSV Tarini Reaches NZ On Global Circumnavigation Expedition
The Indian Navy’s sailing vessel, INSV Tarini, arrived at Lyttelton Harbour, New Zealand, on 22 December as part of its global circumnavigation journey, Navika Sagar Parikrama II.
This marks the vessel’s second stop, following its initial halt in Perth, Australia. The all-women crew, Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa A, successfully navigated a challenging 6,500 km voyage from Perth to Lyttelton in 28 days, braving strong winds and high waves.
The crew was warmly received by representatives from the Indian High Commission in Wellington, the Royal New Zealand Navy, and the local Māori community.
#HCIWellington welcomes arrival of #INSVTarini in Lyttelton today, marking another milestone in India's maritime journey. Proud to have Lt Cdr Roopa A and Lt Cdr Dilna K onboard as they continue to inspire with their remarkable journey to circumnavigate the globe on a sailboat

Flagged off from Goa on October 2 by Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the expedition includes four global stops for replenishment. Continuing the legacy of INSV Tarini’s first circumnavigation, the mission underscores India’s commitment to international maritime cooperation and its rich seafaring traditions. The Navy Chief has been closely monitoring the expedition, receiving daily updates from the crew.
