45-year-old Mitesh Kumar, who stabbed a family member at a McDonald's restaurant, has pleaded guilty to attempted murder.

The stabbing in January this year left the victim seriously injured and requiring life-saving surgery.

New call-to-action

Mitesh Kumar appeared in the High Court at Auckland on Wednesday morning, pleading guilty to attempted murder and two counts of failing to carry out obligations under search powers.

He has been remanded in custody until sentencing in November.

On January 11, 2024, he was taken into custody after a serious assault at a McDonald's restaurant in Auckland.

In a statement, police said a person was seriously injured at the restaurant on Stoddard Road in Wesley shortly before 8pm and was taken to hospital.

Police said the two people involved were known to each other and it appeared to be an isolated incident.
