A 32-year-old Indian man, Dasari Gopikrishna, lost his life in a fatal shooting during a robbery at a convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Texas. Originally from Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh, Gopikrishna had only been in the United States for eight months before the tragedy struck on June 21.

The Consul General D C Manjunath, who happened to be in Dallas for a Yoga Day event, confirmed that the incident was not connected to a shooting in Arkansas, as initially reported by some sources. He expressed deep condolences to Gopikrishna's family, stating, "We are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic demise of Indian national Gopi Krishna Dasari in a robbery shooting incident at Pleasant Grove, Dallas, TX, and are in touch with local family members."

New call-to-action

The Consulate, in coordination with Indian associations, is providing all necessary assistance to facilitate the repatriation of Gopikrishna's body to India after completing local formalities, including an autopsy and obtaining death certificates.

Gopikrishna suffered critical injuries during the robbery and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he passed away on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment.

The Indian community in Dallas and surrounding areas has been deeply affected by this incident. Gopikrishna is survived by his wife and son.
