Immigration NZ Urges Students To Apply Early For 2025 Visas

INZ Urges Early Applications for Student Visas Ahead of 2025 Peak Period

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is prioritising the processing of student visas as the busy summer period approaches, with the highest volume of applications typically submitted towards the end of the year. Students planning to study in New Zealand in early 2025 are being urged to apply well in advance to avoid delays.

The summer peak sees a surge in applications, especially from key markets like India and China. In 2023, 40% of student visa applications from these countries were lodged within six weeks of the intended travel date, with 6% submitted less than a week before departure. This has prompted INZ to call on education providers to remind students to apply early.

Celia Coombes, INZ’s Director of Student Visas, warned that late submissions could result in students missing their start dates.

"We strongly encourage students to submit their applications at least three months prior to their planned travel," Coombes said. "It’s crucial to ensure all required documents, including a valid Offer of Place and financial proof, are provided to avoid disappointment."
