Greenlane Clinical Centre Delays Surgeries Over Power Outage

The main building of Auckland's Greenlane Clinical Centre is experiencing a widespread power outage, with some surgeries and patient care having to be deferred.

The power outage was cause by a minor water leak in building four that damaged the circuit boards.

The leak has been fixed.

Greenlane Clinical Centre delivers day-stay surgeries, and there is no emergency department at the centre.

Acting group director of operations, Auckland, Margaret Dotchin, said an incident management team was set up to manage the issue and work toward restoring power.

"Contingencies are in place to ensure minimal disruptions to patients, whānau and staff.

"We have had to defer some planned care and outpatient appointments today. If you have not heard from us about your appointment, please attend as planned," she said.

In 2023, Christchurch Hospital also experienced a major outage that affected all of their systems.

There were 478 patients in the hospital, including 96 in the emergency department, when the blackout happened two years ago.

Last month, Auckland Hospital also confirmed a main water pipe had burst, with a full shutdown of the water system in the main building for up to 10 hours.
