Fundraiser For Indian Retailers Fosters Community Spirit

The Auckland Indian Retailers Association (AIRA) hosted a gala fundraiser on Saturday night at Halwai, Papatoetoe, bringing together at least 120 business leaders, community members and dignitaries to support community initiatives.
Neeta Bhushan, High Commissioner of India to New Zealand, attended the event as the chief guest. In her address, she acknowledged the Indian community’s contributions to New Zealand’s cultural and economic landscape.
“It’s heartening to witness such a strong spirit of unity and purpose. The Indian retail sector here is thriving, and events like this underscore the power of collaboration and generosity,” she said, emphasising the importance of education and cultural awareness for future generations.
She emphasised the importance of nurturing future generations through education and cultural awareness. She expressed confidence that initiatives like AIRA's fundraising efforts would have a lasting impact.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to unite and support causes that will shape the future of our communities. Let us continue to strengthen the bonds of friendship and goodwill between our two nations," she added.
The fundraiser aimed to improve retail security, promote cultural initiatives, and support social welfare programmes for the Indian diaspora and the broader New Zealand community.
Proceeds will fund projects such as youth development, health education, and cultural exchanges.
Guests experienced an evening of speeches, live music, and performances showcasing India’s heritage. A dinner accompanied the auction, which raised funds through the sale of goods and Indian art pieces.
AIRA President Rajesh Goel expressed gratitude to the attendees, sponsors, and volunteers.
“This evening is a testament to our shared values of unity and progress. The success of this event reflects the strength of our community and its dedication to driving positive change,” he said.
