Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Passes Away at 92
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He was 92 years old.
In an official statement, AIIMS confirmed that the veteran Congress leader had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments. The statement further noted that he experienced a "sudden loss of consciousness at home" and, despite all medical efforts, could not be revived. He was pronounced dead at 9:51 PM.
Dr. Singh served as the Prime Minister of India for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014, leading the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. Known for his economic acumen and calm demeanor, he was a respected figure across the political spectrum. In recent months, he had been battling declining health.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to his predecessor, calling him one of India's "most distinguished leaders." Congress MP Rahul Gandhi expressed deep sorrow, stating, "I have lost a mentor and guide."
Leaders from various political parties also expressed their condolences, highlighting Dr. Singh’s remarkable contributions to the nation.
