Cheaper at the checkout? Food prices drop slightly in October

Food prices fell slightly in October, led by a drop in most grocery and fresh food items.
Prices fell 0.9 percent in October over September. Despite the monthly fall, prices were 6.3 percent higher than a year earlier, Stats NZ said.
October's fruit and vegetable prices fell 3.4 percent on September, with meat, poultry and fish prices down 0.7 percent.
Grocery foods fell 0.8 percent and non-alcoholic drinks were down 0.4 percent.
Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices rose 0.2 percent.
Separately, rents rose in October, along with accommodation.
Transport costs were mixed with diesel prices up but petrol prices down along, with domestic and international airfares.
Alcohol and tobacco prices also rose.
