An 80-year-old Indian-origin man, Bhim Sen Kohli, has succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack while walking his dog in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, near Leicester. The incident, which took place on Sunday evening, has prompted a murder investigation by Leicestershire Police.

Kohli was assaulted by a group of young individuals while walking his dog. He was found seriously injured and rushed to the hospital, where he passed away on Monday night. Following extensive inquiries, police arrested five children—two boys and three girls, aged between 12 and 14—on suspicion of murder. Investigators are currently questioning all.

Detective Inspector Emma Matts, leading the investigation, expressed her condolences, stating, "This tragic incident has now become a murder investigation following the victim’s death. Our officers are working diligently to uncover the full details of what happened."

Leicestershire Police have urged witnesses to come forward with any information, particularly anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Franklin Park or Bramble Way. The police have also admitted to previous contact with the victim, which has led to a voluntary referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).

Local residents, including Kohli’s daughter, have voiced concerns about increasing anti-social behaviour in the area. Speaking to Leicestershire Live, she shared that her father, an active retiree who loved gardening, was just moments away from his home when the attack occurred. Kohli leaves behind his wife, two sons, and a daughter.

The police presence remains strong in the area as investigations continue, with officers conducting reassurance patrols and maintaining scene preservation at Franklin Park.
