For the second year in a row, Bhartiya Samaj Queenstown Charitable Trust (BSQ) has pulled off a memorable Diwali celebration with a unique twist—making sustainability the star of the show. Dubbed Sustainable Diwali 2.0, this year’s event brought together Queenstown’s Indian community and locals to experience a festival that honoured tradition while treading lightly on the environment.
BSQ, a community-driven organisation dedicated to cultural preservation and connection, has added an eco-conscious edge to the festival of lights. Through clever, eco-friendly practices, the trust demonstrated that celebrating Diwali can be a powerful way to promote environmental awareness. The celebration was nearly waste-free, cutting out single-use plastics and championing local, sustainable products that fit with BSQ’s vision of responsible celebration.
The night was filled with traditional music and dance that honoured Diwali’s spirit, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Queenstown. Spectators enjoyed a rich cultural showcase while also feeling part of a greater mission: a cleaner, greener world.
“Diwali symbolises hope, light, and renewal,” shared BSQ President Mangal Behal. “By celebrating sustainably, we aim to extend that light toward a brighter future for our planet.”
Sustainable Diwali 2.0 is more than a festival; it’s a blueprint for future cultural events in Queenstown. With their dedication to both cultural pride and environmental stewardship, BSQ has inspired the community to celebrate mindfully, showing that tradition and eco-consciousness can go hand in hand.
