Pandit Ronu Majumdar Sets Guinness Record with 546-Musician Symphony
Mumbai-based flautist Pandit Ronu Majumdar has made history by leading a symphony of 546 musicians at Gwalior Fort, Madhya Pradesh, achieving a Guinness World Record. The performance, recognised as the largest symphony in the world performing a single composition, marks a monumental achievement for Indian classical music.
The official Guinness World Records ceremony recently honoured Pandit Majumdar for his remarkable accomplishment. Reflecting on the milestone, Pandit Majumdar said, “I am happy to announce that my composition Samvet has entered the Guinness World Records. I am proud to be the music composer and leader of the Largest Hindustani Classical Band registered in the Guinness World Records with 546 musicians.” He received the world record certificate from Nishchal Barotji and Richard Stenningji.
“This is a landmark moment in my life,” he added. “To have 546 musicians creating the largest Indian orchestra as part of the Guinness World Records is a humbling experience.” The composition, titled ‘Samvet,’ consisted of three ragas: Miyan Malhar, Miyan ki Todi, and Darbari. These ragas played a significant role in the achievement of this prestigious record.

Pandit Majumdar also expressed his gratitude to various individuals and organizations that contributed to this success. He thanked the Madhya Pradesh Government, the Cultural Department, and Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav, as well as the Central Government for their trust in him. He extended special thanks to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for attending the concert and acknowledged the musicians whose dedication and skill were key to the performance's success. Pandit Majumdar also thanked Richard Stenning from Guinness World Records for his presence in Gwalior and expressed his heartfelt appreciation to his fans and audiences for their continuous support.
