For Kamni Reddy, what began as a personal interest in fashion and shopping turned into a remarkable journey on the global stage. The Fiji-born New Zealander, who moved to New Zealand 20 years ago, recently earned the title of second runner-up at the prestigious Woman of the World Beauty Pageant 2024, held in Manila, Philippines.

A Finance Manager and Chartered Accountant at Auckland engineering firm Harrison Grierson, Kamni balanced her professional life with her passion for fashion.

Kamni has previously been a contestant in NZ Top Model, where she won the People's Choice Award. She has also been crowned Mrs Super Model Worldwide NZ and, most recently, Mrs Grand Universe NZ 2024, which allowed her to represent New Zealand in the global competition.

Her preparation for Woman of the World was intense and rushed due to work and other commitments. “I only had two weeks to prepare. Managing a demanding profession and preparing for a pageant was tough. I had to be really disciplined, especially with time management,” she admitted. The Woman of the World Beauty Pageant, held in Manila, Philippines, and organised by MegaStar Productions, brought together contestants from around the globe for eight days of challenges that showcased beauty, talent, and advocacy. Kamni stood out with her intelligence, grace, and compassion.

“Being part of this event was an achievement in itself, and representing NZ internationally was truly a dream come true for me,” she said.

Her family, initially surprised, stood by her every step of the way.
“My parents were very supportive,” she shared. “I wanted to break down traditional stereotypes and inspire others to try new things—to show that success can be achieved anywhere, from the ballroom to the boardroom.”

Beyond the glitz and glamour, her journey included touring local schools and participating in charity initiatives, aligning with the competition’s theme of ‘Rising Against Hunger’. These efforts highlighted her dedication to social change, particularly in supporting underprivileged youth and promoting sustainable solutions to global challenges.

The crown ultimately went to a contestant from the UAE, with Sri Lanka as the first runner-up. Despite the tough competition, Kamni’s success was celebrated back home, where her leadership in community initiatives and advocacy for cultural diversity continue to inspire many.

Looking ahead, she hopes to inspire young girls. “Beauty doesn’t just mean how you look. It’s discipline, how you carry yourself. Don’t let others talk you out of your dreams. Just go with it. Work hard at it, and you will be surprised at what you can achieve.”

IMG_7470Although she is stepping away from pageants for now to focus on her professional career and other commitments, fashion remains an integral part of her life. “I will always be in fashion,” she said, leaving the door open for future opportunities.

Reflecting on her experience, Kamni summed up the essence of her journey: “True beauty lies in service, strength, and making a positive impact.”
